It has indeed been a very busy couple of months. There is so much for Savannah and I to be thankful for! We are truly blessed and thank all of those that support and love us.

So my side of the story…As many of you know, last December, I joined the victims of the recession and become jobless. The holidays were a bit rough, but Savannah and I are not one to let anything ruin our celebration time. Especially not Jesus’s B-Day and New Years.

Being unemployed is definitely one of the hardest experiences I have had to go through in my life, even harder than getting my MBA, but I think I had one of the more positive unemployed stories. I learned a lot through our tribulations, but here is my takeaway.

God provides…when I was first laid off, I was given a severance package to hold me off for one month. Before that ran out, I cashed out my 401 (k) which would have gotten me through another month. After that, it would have been off to debtor’s prison and bankruptcy for The King. I had filed for unemployment, but the check was nowhere in sight. As February started off, and still no prospects of a job (or an interview for that matter) and still no word from the unemployment office, this non-worrier began to worry.

When out of nowhere, from the unlikeliest of places, I found a job. Belmont University and their career services actually found me a part-time marketing position with a company called Clinard Home Improvement (SHAMELESS PLUG ALERT check them out at www.clinardhome.com). While it wasn’t full-time, it would definitely stretch the leftover severance and 401(k) money out another couple of months.

But God provided again and again! Not a week or two after starting at Clinard, my unemployment check finally came in. So then I was good and had till the end of May to land a full-time job. And guess what! He provided a full-time position with Emdeon, healthcare IT company that specializes in payment cycle software packages for companies in healthcare (EQUAL TIME www.emdeon.com) a month and a half after Clinard.

But wait, it gets better. While getting my feet wet at Emdeon, an interview I had months earlier finally turned into a response, and I was offered a Compliance Analyst position with LifePoint Hospitals (MORE EQUAL TIME www.lifepointhospitals.com). That’s right. Count them. That’s three jobs in an economic recession. Proof you can’t listen to the media.

So now I have choices. I am not the biggest fan of starting something and quitting, especially a job. I am definitely set apart from the Gen Y’er stereotype that we are ship jumpers and don’t stay with a company for very long. Having just gone through the job search process, I hope to never have to look for a job again, but LifePoint came with a better offer, so I have accepted. Call me a Ship Jumper. So I will now be a Marketing Consultant for Clinard Home Improvement and a Compliance Analyst for LifePoint Hospitals.

So the point to all this rambling is that God really does provide. And I definitely would not have been able to get through any of this without the love and support of my family, friends and Savannah. They say that the best way to find a job is to stay positive. As soon as you get negative, that’s when your search begins to crumble. Without support, I would not have been able to stay as positive as I did, and I would not have been able to find not one, not two, but three jobs in an economic recession. In tough times being positive and trudging through will ultimately lead to results, because God will provide!
